Mohammed Shami is among India's best bowlers, although following the ODI World Cup 2023 he had a significant injury that sidelined him. On his possible comeback to competitive cricket, however, there is great expectation as supporters want to see him back in action and help the squad flourish once more.
Mohammed Shami made a huge statement about his return to competitive cricket
Mohammed Shami, a very skilled fast bowler, is unsure about whether he would be able to rejoin the Indian team due to an ankle injury. Nevertheless, he indicated his intention to participate in domestic cricket for Bengal prior to his return to international competition. The individual, who is 33 years old, had a surgical procedure earlier this year and has commenced the activity of bowling at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) located in Bengaluru.
Mohammed Shami's previous performance for India occurred in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November of last year, resulting in a devastating loss for India.
At a felicitation gathering organised by the East Bengal Club in Kolkata, Shami expressed his thoughts on his return, stating (via Sportskeeda):
"It's difficult to say when I will be back. I am trying hard but hopefully you will get to see me in Bengal colors before I don the India jersey again. I will come to play two-three matches for Bengal and will come fully prepared for it."
"We never thought the injury would be this serious. The plan was to address it after the T20 World Cup since we had the IPL and the ICC T20 mega event coming almost back-to-back after last year's World Cup. But it turned worse during the ODI World Cup itself and I also did not find it right to risk playing on with it. Even the doctors could not fathom that the injury will take such a serious turn and will take so much time to heal,"
Mohammed Shami shown exceptional skills during his past participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup, when he achieved remarkable success by taking the most number of wickets, totalling 24, in just seven matches.
Regrettably, his injury resulted in his absence from both the 2024 IPL season and the subsequent T20 World Cup. He is also out of Team India’s squad currently participating in an ODI series against Sri Lanka.
