Who could forget the dramatic end to Virat Kohli's tenure as captain in 2022 and how it gave rise to Rohit Sharma as the new all-format skipper of Team India. Sourav Ganguly was the BCCI president back then, who entrusted Rohit with the position. As the Hitman has attained glory by becoming only the 3rd Indian captain to lift a World Cup, Ganguly has taken a trip down memory lane, when his decision was criticised by the naysayers. He highlighted how he endured the stick for it and now that everything is roses and rainbows they have seem to forget who put Rohit at the helm.

Sourav Ganguly Hits Back At Critics Who Doubted His Decision To Appoint Rohit Sharma As The Captain Of Team India

Rohit Sharma's Team India ended the prolonged wait for an ICC trophy triumph by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The victory came after the heartbreaking loss in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. But the celebration of a win has cleaned all the stains of loss and cemented his legacy as the captain of Team India. Sourav Ganguly, who appointed Rohit as the captain, takes pride in his decision and has not let the opportunity to hit back at critics go.

"When I handed Rohit Sharma the captaincy of the Indian team, everyone criticised me. Now that India has won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, everyone has stopped abusing me for it. In fact, I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed him as the captain of the Indian team," Sourav Ganguly told Ajkaal.

Ganguly On The Upcoming Transition In Delhi Capitals

Ganguly, who is the Team Director of Delhi Capitals paid heed to the transition that the franchise would face following the end of Ricky Ponting's period as head coach of the team, and said he would back the decision makers to bring on board an Indian to become the new coach of DC.

"I am planning for the next IPL. I want DC to win this time. I will speak to the management about appointing an Indian as the head coach," Ganguly said.

"I want to give a shot as the head coach. I will bring in some new players. Wanted to bring in Jamie Smith from England. I wanted to test him out in Delhi's SA20 franchise. He wanted to come in but the schedules did not match," the former India captain concluded.
