Vat Purnima Vrat: Significance and Rituals

The day is considered auspicious for married women as they worship Lord Yama for the well-being and long life of their husbands.
They observe fast for the entire day. During the evening, they worship Goddess Savitri and Satyawan under the banyan tree. The Vat or the banyan tree holds significance for Vat Purnima. It is believed that the banyan tree represents the three supreme deities of Hinduism – Lord Brahma, lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Devotees must wear new clothes, and apply vermilion on their forehead. Unmarried women can also keep Vat Purnima Vrat to seek blessings for getting a good husband. Unmarried women should wear yellow clothes while praying to the Goddess.
