A daily flight between New Delhi and the eastern Assam town of Jorhat is set to commence in October, according to Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi. The flight will be operated by SpiceJet, utilizing a 189-seater plane under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN. This new route aims to enhance connectivity and promote economic growth in the region. Gogoi mentioned that the information was relayed to him by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. The UDAN stands for Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik.

Presently, Jorhat has air connectivity to Kolkata, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur, with IndiGo operating flights on these routes. The introduction of this new flight is expected to provide more travel options for residents and boost tourism and business activities in Jorhat and surrounding areas.

The UDAN scheme, launched by the Government of India, aims to make air travel affordable and widespread, connecting underserved and unserved airports across the country. The addition of the New Delhi-Jorhat route is a significant step in this direction.
