8 Girls Jumped In Pond To Save Woman in Agra, 4 Drowned
At the Yamuna Expressway interchange in UP's Agra, at least 4 minor girls were drowned, while attempting to save a woman from a pond.
Agra: In a heart-wrenching incident which took place at the Yamuna Expressway interchange in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, where at least four minor girls were drowned, while attempting to save a woman. The brave girls, before being drowned in the pond, succeed in saving the woman with the help of divers. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Khadauli police station on Sunday leading to a panic-like situation in the area.
According to the reports, the incident took place, when the woman's foot slipped on the bank of the pond and she fell into the pond. To save her, the girls also jumped into the pond. However, they didn’t know how to swim, and they also started drowning in the deep water.
Meanwhile, hearing everyone's screams, the police and home guards personnel present nearby rushed to the pond along with the local people and jumped in the pond to save them. They saved the woman and 4 children and brought them to the side of the pond, while the other four girls couldn’t save themselves and were drowned. The victims were at once sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Hardil, Neha, Anuradha and Shalini. The age of the four girls who died by drowning in the pond was found to be between 11 and 12 years. It is alleged that there was no barricading for safety in the rainwater harvesting pond built by the Yamuna Expressway Authority.
Khandauli police station in-charge Inspector Rakesh Chauhan said that the incident happened around 10.30 am when information regarding the drowning of a woman and 8 girls in the pond was received.
