Shweta Tiwari Reveals Why She Maintained Relationship With Her Ex Despite Their Dysfunctional Family

Shweta Tiwari, who became a household name after playing Prerna in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, enjoyed a successful career in the television industry. However, her personal life was not a smooth sailing. In a recent interview, the actress broke her silence on two of her failed marriages and revealed that she was cheated on multiple times in her past relationships.

The actress was married to Bhojpuri actor Raja Chaudhary but the two parted ways in 2007. Later, she dated Abhinav Kohli for a few years and got married to him in 2013. However, her second marriage also didn't last and the two parted and separated in 2019.

Shweta Tiwari opens up about her divorces

In an interview with Galatta India, Shweta candidly spoke about why she took nine years to file for divorce from Raja despite facing domestic violence. The actress revealed that she was worried about her daughter Palak not having a father while growing up. “In my entire family, nobody had ever done a love marriage, I had. There was also caste problems that existed in our family, yet I had an inter-caste marriage. People had already started to taunt my mother and judging my marriage. On top of that, if I filed for a divorce, it would have been a whole different thing. At that point in time, it wasn’t that I was not financially independent, but it was more of an emotional thing."

She added that later she realised that one can have a happy family when he/she is mentally happy. "It’s not a good upbringing for your child to be in a dysfunctional family. If two people can’t co-exist, it is better to part ways," she added.

Shweta Tiwari on being cheated in past relationships

In the same interview, Shweta shared that she was cheated on in the past and revealed how it affected her. "You cry, you feel, ‘God, why me?’ You try to fix it, you try to do everything possible to undo it," she said. The actress added that when it happens a second time, it hurts while the third time it stops having an impact on a person. "Now, when someone cheats on me, when someone hurts me, I don’t complain about it to them. I simply get detached. It’s in their personality to hurt me and now it’s in my personality to not get hurt," she concluded.

Shweta has a daughter Palak from her first husband Raja and a son Reyansh from her second husband Abhinav.
