Sanjay Dutt lost his mother, Nargis Dutt, to cancer on May 3, 1981, just three days before the premiere of his debut film, Rocky. Decades later, in August 2020, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Despite the severe prognosis, Dutt announced in 2021 that he had overcome the disease and was now cancer-free.

During his battle with cancer, he demonstrated remarkable courage and contributed to raising awareness about cancer. Recently, an old clip of the KGF Chapter 2 star has been circulating on the internet where he recalled his battle with cancer and how he fought back.

Sanjay Dutt shares his cancer battle story

In January 2024, Sanjay Dutt appeared as a guest host on an episode of Indian Idol season 14. During the show, a blind contestant's performance inspired him to share his own story of courage.

The Munna Bhai MBBS star revealed in the video that, in 2020, the doctor diagnosed him with stage 4 lung cancer. During his first chemotherapy session, the doctors warned him about possible side effects like vomiting, hair loss and being bedridden for several days.

Dutt stated in the video, “The doctor told me, I have stage 4 lung cancer. I cried for 1 minute because I thought of my children, but then I said, 'I will win, it will lose.' When I had my first chemotherapy session, the doctors told me, 'You will vomit, your hair will fall out, this will happen, that will happen, you'll be bedridden for 5 days.' I said, 'I won't vomit, I won't lose my hair, I won't do anything'."

Sanjay Dutt went to the gym after his chemo session

Sanjay Dutt further revealed that after his chemotherapy, he went to the gym and worked out for two hours. The following day, he told his doctor he needed to go for a shoot, to which the doctor didn’t suggest the same. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, he completed filming for Shamshera and KGF.

“After chemotherapy, I went straight to the gym for the first time and worked out for 2 hours. The next day, I went to the doctor and said, 'I need to go for shooting.' He said, 'You're mad.' I completed Shamshera and KGF during chemotherapy, and today I've won and cancer has lost. Keep cheering as much as you want.”
