Emmy Awards Nomination 2024: Shogun Makes History With 25 Mentions, The Bear Follows With 23

Today, the prestigious Emmy Award nominations have been announced. Emmy winners Tony Hale and Sheryl Lee Ralph will join Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego to reveal the 2024 nominees. The ceremony, which will be streamed live from the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, can be viewed on the Emmys website and the Television Academy’s YouTube channel.

Earlier, reports have predicted the nominees in various categories. With Succession not in the running this year, the drama category may be wide open when the Emmy nominations are unveiled on Wednesday morning. On the comedy side, The Bear could have another strong showing.

None of last year’s top three nominees, Succession, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us, all from HBO—are competing this year. Succession, which had dominated the awards in three of the past four years, has ended, and the other two shows are between seasons.

What can we expect this year?

Reservation Dogs, The Gilded Age, and The Traitors have secured spots in the top categories for the 76th annual Emmy Awards, while Shōgun leads the pack with 25 nominations, including for Best Drama Series, as announced on Wednesday morning.

Other major contenders include The Bear with 23 nominations, Only Murders in the Building with 21, True Detective: Night Country with 19, and The Crown with 18. The full list of nominees was revealed this morning at the El Capitan Theatre. The nominations also highlighted Netflix’s controversial yet captivating limited series Baby Reindeer and gave notable mentions to the fourth season of True Detective, starring Jodie Foster. The competition for limited series is heating up, with Netflix’s Ripley going head-to-head with Reindeer, alongside FX’s Fargo, Apple’s Lessons in Chemistry, and HBO’s True Detective.

There may be many intriguing nominations this year. Expect several Oscar winners to receive nods, including current best actress and best-supporting actor winners Emma Stone for The Curse and Robert Downey Jr. for The Sympathizer. Getting back to its traditional schedule, the final award show will be held Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and air on ABC.
