UPSC aspirants deaths: Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav Tuesday claimed that besides the three confirmed deaths, there are reports of 10 to 12 additional individuals who may be missing from the coaching centre in Old Rajender Nagar. A recent tragedy on July 27 claimed the lives of three UPSC aspirants, when heavy rains led to severe flooding in the basement, resulting in the deaths of the three UPSC aspirants.

According to Yadav, there is a list of six students officially reported as missing, but he suspects that the actual number could be higher.

He accused authorities of attempting to conceal the full extent of the crisis. "Not only have three students died at the coaching centre, but there is also a list of six missing students. I believe 10 to 12 people are missing. All attempts are being made to hide this fact," Yadav stated, as quoted by PTI.

LS MP highlights lack of regulatory oversight

Yadav criticized the lack of regulatory oversight for coaching institutes and called for legislative action to address the issue. He pointed out that there are currently no specific guidelines governing these institutions.

"Students are not safe anywhere and are being exploited. 900 students have committed suicide in Kota. Bihar has the highest number with 60 percent of students traveling to Bengaluru, Kota, and Delhi for studies. Most of the students who appear for the UPSC exams are from Bihar," Yadav emphasized.

The MP highlighted a broader issue of inadequate quality education in Bihar and criticized the government for failing to provide access to prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs for Bihar students. "People in Bihar spend ₹40,000 crore on their children's education in other states. Unfortunately, the government has not focused on their safety. Coaching institutes continue to exploit students nationwide," Yadav added.

Protests continue

Meanwhile, protests continued in Old Rajender Nagar, where students have taken to the streets demanding compensation for the families of the deceased and full disclosure of the death toll.

The protesters have raised concerns about safety measures, particularly in libraries located in basements, calling for immediate attention to improve safety standards.
