Explained/ IND vs ENG: India need to be wary of one worrying sign as similarities with 2019 World Cup emerges

The Indian Juggernaut

Cricket World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma-led Team India have ticked all the boxes in the ongoing marquee tournament and as of now look like clear favourites to lift the coveted World Cup trophy. They lost Hardik Pandya to an injury before the New Zealand game, but that didn't seem to have any effect on the Blue Brigade's current form or momentum. The inclusion of Mohammad Shami came in as a blessing as the Gujarat Titans spearhead became the only Indian bowler to claim two fifers in World Cup.

3 things you need to know:

  • India take on England in their next CWC 2023 clash
  • India are on the top of the World Cup points table with 10 points
  • The Indian team last won the ODI World Cup in 2011

ICC ODI World Cup: Strange coincidence between India's 2019 and 2023 campaign

Every Indian knows how the Men in Blue were knocked out of the 2019 ODI World Cup and the scars still remain fresh. India, who were presumed to be the strongest team of the tournament back in the 2019 World Cup were knocked out by New Zealand in a rain hit semi-final that spilled over to the second day. Interestingly, India lost only one match before the knockouts and that came in the group stage. An undefeated Team India's campaign came to halt against England who were playing a fiery brand of cricket under Eoin Morgan.

Interestingly India had won all their previous five matches and only one was washed out against New Zealand. The Virat Kohli-led India had defeated Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies and Afghanistan. This time around too, India are undefeated and have won all their 5 matches so far.

CWC 2023: India's campaign so far

  • IND vs AUS: India won by 6 wickets
  • IND vs AFG: India won by 8 wickets
  • IND vs PAK: India won by 7 wickets
  • IND vs BAN: India won by 7 wickets
  • IND vs NZ: India won by 4 wickets
  • IND vs ENG: To be decided

IND vs ENG: Who has the upper hand?

Going on the basis of current form, India look like clear favourites to win the match. England so far have had a very dismal World Cup and have not performed according to the expectations. Surprisingly the Jos Buttler-led side haven't look like the defending champions and they will certainly look to bounce back with a dominant over the invincible Indian team.
