World Brain Day 2024: Juices That Can Bolster Your Mental Health

The right foods can enhance your cognitive ability by improving your brain's function, but no food can entirely prevent age-related conditions like dementia.

The right foods can enhance brain function, although no food can entirely prevent age-related conditions like dementia. On World Brain Day, July 22, focus on nutrient-rich juices to fuel your brain for better concentration and cognitive performance.

What constitutes as brain food? 

Brain foods are nutrient-dense items that support brain function and provide energy. Have a look at the key brain foods:

Fatty fish: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, essential for brain health.

Blueberries: Packed with antioxidants that may boost memory.

Turmeric: Contains curcumin, offering anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.

Pumpkin Seeds: Provide magnesium, iron, zinc, and copper for optimal brain function.

Dark chocolate: Contains flavonoids, caffeine, and antioxidants to enhance brain function.

Top juices for brain health

Blueberry juice: Blueberry juice is high in anthocyanins, flavonoid compounds that may improve mental performance. Research published in the European Journal of Nutrition in 2020 suggests that consuming 1 or 2 cups of blueberry juice daily, preferably in the morning, can provide a significant brain boost.

Pomegranate juice: Pomegranate juice contains polyphenols, known to improve brain function. According to Bisht, a daily intake of about 250 ml can enhance memory and learning abilities. It’s best consumed in the morning or before mentally demanding tasks for optimal benefits.

Beet juice: Beet juice is rich in nitrates, which promote blood vessel dilation and increase blood flow to the brain. A 2015 study in the Nutrients journal found that this can enhance cognitive function. One cup per day is recommended, ideally before physical or mental activities.

Carrot juice: Carrot juice contains luteolin, which may protect cognitive health. Drinking one cup daily, preferably in the morning, can support brain function and provide a fresh start to your day.

Spinach juice: Spinach juice is high in lutein, an antioxidant that helps cleanse brain toxins and slow cognitive decline. A daily glass of spinach juice, ideally in the morning, is beneficial for maintaining brain health.
