The monsoon season can be refreshing, but it poses challenges for sensitive skin. Increased humidity, frequent rain, and fluctuating temperatures can lead to oily skin, breakouts, and dullness. Despite these challenges, there are simple yet effective ways to maintain healthy skin during the rainy season.

Thorough cleansing

During the monsoon, damp air causes dirt and pollution to stick to your skin more easily. To prevent clogged pores and keep your skin clean, it’s essential to wash your face thoroughly. Use a herbal, soap-free cleanser twice a day for clear and healthy skin. Opt for cleansers with natural ingredients like neem or tea tree oil, which have antibacterial properties that help prevent breakouts.

Weekly exfoliation

Exfoliating is crucial to maintain skin health during the monsoon. Use a mild scrub once a week to remove dead skin cells and rejuvenate your skin. You can also make a homemade scrub using oatmeal and yogurt or besan and milk, as these ingredients gently exfoliate while deeply nourishing the skin.

Managing excess oil

High humidity levels can increase sebum production, resulting in oilier skin and acne breakouts. To combat excess oil, incorporate oil-absorbing face masks or clay masks into your weekly skincare routine. Masks with ingredients like charcoal, rice starch, or gram flour effectively absorb excess oil and impurities, promoting a matte, refreshed complexion. A DIY mask using multani mitti (Fuller’s Earth) and rose water can be particularly beneficial for managing oily skin.

Adequate moisturisation

Despite the humidity, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. Choose a lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer to maintain soft, supple skin without adding to its oiliness. Gel-based moisturizers with hydrating ingredients like aloe vera, vitamin E, glycerin, or cucumber are excellent choices. These ingredients provide necessary moisture without clogging pores, ensuring a balanced and healthy complexion.
