President Murmu Announces Major Governor Appointments Across Nine States
President Murmu announces new governors for nine states, including Acharya for Assam and Manipur, and Kataria for Punjab.

In a recent shuffle of the governors, President Droupadi Murmu has appointed new governors across nine states. Lakshman Prasad Acharya takes on the roles of Assam governor and additional charge of Manipur. Gulab Chand Kataria will now serve as the governor of Punjab, succeeding Banwarilal Purohit. The reshuffle also includes new appointments for Sikkim, Jharkhand, Telangana, and other regions.
According to the statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, “Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur.” With Acharya's new role, he replaces Kataria, who will also serve as the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. This comes after President Droupadi Murmu accepted Banwarilal Purohit’s resignation as governor of Punjab and Chandigarh administrator.

- Telangana: Jishnu Dev Verma
- Sikkim: Om Prakash Mathur
- Jharkhand: Santosh Kumar Gangwar
- Chhattisgarh: Ramen Deka
- Meghalaya: C H Vijayashankar
- Maharashtra: C.P. Radhakrishnan
- Punjab: Gulab Chand Kataria
- Assam and Manipur: Lakshman Prasad Acharya
Anusuiya Uikey, who has been serving as Manipur’s governor since February of last year, will be succeeded by Acharya. The new governor of Sikkim will be Om Prakash Mathur, a veteran BJP leader, as announced in the same communique.
In further changes, Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan, who previously held the charge of Telangana, has been appointed as the new governor of Maharashtra, taking over from Ramesh Bais. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, former Union Labour and Employment Minister, will replace Radhakrishnan as Jharkhand’s governor. Jishnu Dev Varma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, will now serve as Telangana’s governor.
Additionally, K Kailashnathan, a former IAS official and key advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Kailashnathan, who retired as Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s chief principal secretary on June 30, will assume office at a later date.
