Drass: As the country remembered the valour of our braveheart soldiers in Kargil who laid down their lives to safeguard the motherland from Pakistani intruders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday warned Pakistan of befitting response for carrying out any terror activities against Indian soil.

PM Modi arrived in Kargil on July 26 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas and paid tributes to the war heroes, saying the sacrifices made by the soldiers are immortal.

Launching a blistering attack on Pakistan, the PM said that it has not learnt any lessons from history and has faced defeat whenever it carried out any misadventure.

"Today, I am speaking from a place where masters of terror can hear my voice directly. I want to tell patrons of terrorism that their nefarious designs will never succeed," he said.

"Our bravehearts will crush terrorism and enemy will be given a befitting response," he reiterated.

PM Modi's remarks comes amid a surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir region.

Modi said "in Kargil, we not only won the war, we gave a wonderful example of truth, restraint and strength".

The Indian Army on July 26, 1999 defeated the Pakistani Army who had infiltrated on the Indian soil and captured the areas in the regions which were nearly impossible to reclaim by the Indian Army but the Indian soldiers fought relentlessly in extreme weather and announced the successful culmination of "Operation Vijay", declaring victory after a nearly three-month-long battle on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh.

Every year, July 26 is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in the war in 1999.

The prime minister also said that India will defeat every obstacle in the development of Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

PM's Dig at Oppn over Agnipath scheme

PM Modi also targeted the opposition for politicising the Agnipath scheme.

"The country has felt the need for major reforms in the defence sector for decades. The army has been demanding this for years, but unfortunately, it was not given enough importance earlier. The Agnipath scheme is also an example of the necessary reforms done in the Army. For decades, discussions have been going on in Parliament and many committees on making the army young," the PM said during his address.

He further added that people who are misleading the youth of the country are proof that they don't care about soldiers. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath singh also paid tributes to Kargil war heroes at Natioal War Memorial in Delhi.
