New Delhi: The Centre on Saturday appointed the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Daljit Singh Chawdhary as the Acting Director General of the BSF untill further orders. This development comes a day the Union Cabinet approved the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) proposal to send Border Security Force (BSF) Director General (DG) Nitin Agarwal on premature repatriation to his parent Kerala cadre with immediate effect.

Chaudhary will take the charge until a regular appointment is made or further orders are issued. This move by the Centre follows a rise in terror incidents and infiltration attempts in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region.

This year, many civilians have been killed while many security personnel lost their lives in line of action and around 11 terror-related incidents have been reported.

Along with Agarwal, deputy Special DG (West) YB Khurania was removed by the Centre, sending him back to his respective state cadre with immediate effect.

A 1989 batch IPS officer, Agarwal had taken charge as BSF DG in June last year, succeeding Pankaj Kumar Singh. Agarwal was repatriated to his parent cadre about two years before his tenure was to end as BSF DG.

“The appointments committee of cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for premature repatriation of Nitin Agarwal, IPS KL (89), DG, BSF to his parent cadre with immediate effect,” the order said.
