Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan has finally made his acting debut with his latest release, Maharaj, co-starring Jaideep Ahlawat. The road to release was not easy as days before the premiere, the movie was barred from streaming on Netflix after a petition by a group of businessmen who argued that the film could potentially offend the religious sentiments of the Vaishnav community. The movie, originally scheduled to release on June 14, premiered on June 21.

The movie is receiving positive reviews from critics and audiences. The actor is also being praised for his role as Karsandas Mulji. In a recent interview with ANI, Junaid expressed his happiness about the overwhelming positive feedback.

Junaid Khan is 'very grateful'

Junaid Khan shared that he is "very grateful" for the by and large positive response that Maharaj has received. "Yeah, it's quite satisfying; I guess all's well that ends well," he added. Speaking about the initial attraction to the script, the actor said when filmmaker  Siddharth P. Malhotra and producer Aditya Chopra called him for the story, he found it "very appealing". He added, "I really liked Sid Sir's part. The Yash Raj banner is significant, so taking on this project was an obvious choice."

What advice did Junaid Khan receive from his father, Aamir Khan?

The actor shared that his father, Aamir Khan, lets them do what they want to do unless the children ask for something very specific and only then he gives advice. Junaid added that Aamir liked his film. "He saw the film a few months ago and he quite liked it," he concluded.

Earlier on Friday, the Gujarat High Court lifted its temporary stay on the release of the film. Following the decision, YRF took to its official Instagram handle to post a statement expressing its gratitude and announced the release of the movie.

What is the plot of Maharaj?

The historical drama Maharaj is based on one of the greatest legal battles in Indian history - the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case. Based on a true event that took place in 1862, pre-independence India, the movie follows the journey of India's social reformer, Karsandas Mulji. This David vs. Goliath story showcases one man's courage to stand against the injustices of his time. It is directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and stars Shalini Pandey and Sharvari Wagh, apart from Jaideep and Junaid. Maharaj is currently streaming on Netflix.
