Nick Jonas Explains To Jimmy Fallon Why He Is Called 'National Jiju' By Indian Fans

Priyanka Chopra married American singer and actor Nick Jonas, and since then, he has become the 'National Jiju' of India. Earlier this year in January when the Jonas Brothers came to India to perform at Lollapalooza in Mumbai, Nick was welcomed on stage with a loud cheer "Jiju Jiju". Recently,  during his appearance on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon asked about his nickname and well, the singer patiently explained to him and the American audience what it means.

In a video shared by the official Instagram handle of Fallon Tonight, Jimmy asks Nick about his nickname. Explaining to him, the singer said, "As you know I am married to an Indian woman." Jimmy seconded him and said, "Absolutely, we love Priyanka." Nick added, "When we got married this hashtag started. It was ‘National Jiju’ and Jiju means elder sister’s husband, so effectively I’m the older brother to India. Which is very sweet."

Jimmy then inquires, "So they introduced you as Jiju" and played a clip from The Jonas Brothers concert in Mumbai, in which Nick's elder brothers Joe and Kevin introduced him as "Jiju” and the crowd started chanting "jiju jiju." The video concluded with Nick saying that he loves that.

The couple started dating in May 2018 and a few months later Nick proposed to the actress after her birthday, in Crete, Greece. The couple got engaged in August 2018 in a Punjabi Roka ceremony in Mumbai, and by the end of the year, they got married at Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, in Hindu and Christian ceremonies. In January 2022, the couple announced the birth of their first child, a daughter Malti Marie. She was born via surrogacy.
