New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the centre-wise and city-wise results for Undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2024 on July 20 by 12 PM. Candidates who appeared for the exam can check their results on the official NTA NEET website. This announcement follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which has been hearing multiple petitions seeking a retest due to alleged question paper leaks.
How to Check NEET-UG Results
Candidates can follow these steps to check their NEET UG results:
1. Go to the official NEET website at nta.ac.in.
2. Look for the link that says "NEET UG 2024 Centre-wise and City-wise Results."
3. A PDF file will open
4.. The results will be displayed on the screen.
It is important to note that this result PDF is not meant for the candidates as the roll numbers will be masked in order to protect students' identity. The result PDF will be published on the order of SC, merely to reveal how the students performed in the cities and centres that are marred with allegations of irregularities in the exam. Candidates must note that the revised NEET results declared on June 30 will be the final until the SC orders otherwise.
Supreme Court Hearing on NEET-UG Retest
On Thursday, a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, addressed a series of petitions calling for a retest of the NEET UG 2024 exam. The petitioners argued that a leak in the question papers led to 61 students receiving full marks, an outcome deemed impossible under the exam's marking scheme.
Chief Justice Chandrachud's Division Bench directed the NTA to publish centre-wise results of all candidates by 12 PM on Saturday, July 20, 2024. This decision was made to allow petitioners to substantiate their claims of the alleged paper leak. To ensure privacy, the Court ordered that student identities be masked with fake numbers.
On July 8, 2024, the Supreme Court recognized the question paper leak as an “undisputed fact” but stated that a retest would be a last resort. The Court requested detailed information about the leak from the NTA, which conducts the NEET exam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the breach.
The NTA initially resisted disclosing centre-wise details due to privacy concerns. However, the Court emphasized the need for this data to help the petitioners build their case while ensuring student anonymity.
The Court has not yet ruled on the petitioners’ request to halt the counselling process while the case is ongoing. Further hearings are scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2024.
