Jodhpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur) has approved a proposal to offer BTech courses in both Hindi and English. Starting this academic year, the first-year BTech classes will be divided into two sections based on the students' language preferences.

The Senate, during its 38th meeting held on June 26, approved this initiative. Ravi Jingar, Assistant Registrar at the Office of Academic Affairs, IIT Jodhpur, stated that the decision aims to assist students who face challenges due to a lack of proficiency in English. The courses will be taught by the same instructor for both language sections to ensure consistency and rigor in the teaching-learning process.

Admission to IIT Jodhpur is based on the merit list from the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024). Upon admission, students were asked to indicate their preferred medium of instruction. The institute will then organize the classes into two sections, one for Hindi and one for English.

The Senate noted that IIT Jodhpur, being a leader in technology, science, humanities, and management, should provide education in the native language to support students facing language barriers.

This initiative follows the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval in July 2021, which introduced 11 regional-language BTech courses in India and began translating and creating original engineering textbooks in regional languages.

For more information and updates on the new language instruction policy at IIT Jodhpur, visit the official IIT Jodhpur website.
