Paris: At the Eurosatory 2024 Defence Show in Paris, India's indigenous military technologies have garnered significant attention from European and Southeast Asian nations. Key systems such as the Netra airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft and the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) systems are prominently displayed at the India pavilion. These advanced systems have sparked interest among potential international buyers, highlighting India's growing prowess in defence technology.

"Some European and Southeast Asian countries have shown interest in the Netra AEW&C aircraft and the Pinaka rocket launcher systems. We are hopeful of progressing discussions with potential customers for these products," a defence official told reporters. The AEW&C system, developed by the Centre for Airborne Systems, has already proven its operational success with the Indian Air Force, providing extensive coverage of adversary activities along India's western and northern fronts.

Pinaka MBRL Systems Attracting European Interest

The Pinaka MBRL systems, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by various private and public sector firms, have also drawn significant attention. This system is one of the first Indian military products to be exported, with Armenia being a notable recipient. Private sector players involved in the project include Larsen & Toubro, Tata Defence, and Economic Explosives Limited.

The Indian Army requires 23 regiments of the Pinaka MBRL as part of its broader artillery modernization plans. India’s defence exports have seen a substantial increase, with the Financial Year (FY) 2023-24 recording a growth of 32.5% over the previous fiscal. Defence exports touched a record Rs 21,083 crore (about USD 2.63 billion), up from Rs 15,920 crore in the previous year.

Netra AEW&C Systems: Proven and Expanding

The Netra AEW&C system's effectiveness has been validated with two aircraft already operational with the Indian Air Force and plans for 12 more in various configurations. These airborne systems are crucial for monitoring adversary activities, and enhancing national security along India's borders. The success of the Pinaka MBRL system in exports is a testament to India's capability to develop advanced military technologies.

India's defence industry has been making concerted efforts to promote exports, and the results are evident. Armenian procurement of multiple systems amidst tensions with Azerbaijan highlights the strategic relevance of Indian defence technologies. The government's push for self-reliance and indigenous development is yielding tangible results, positioning India as a significant player in the global defence market.

Eurosatory 2024: Showcasing Indian Defence Capabilities

Eurosatory 2024 has provided a platform for Indian defence manufacturers to showcase their capabilities. The event's success in drawing international interest to Indian technologies like the Netra AEW&C and Pinaka MBRL systems is a positive indicator of future export potential. India's defence sector is poised for continued growth, driven by innovation and strategic partnerships with global players.

The Indian government’s vision for a robust and self-reliant defence industry is taking shape, as evidenced by the increasing export figures and international interest. The ongoing developments at Eurosatory 2024 reflect India’s commitment to enhancing its defence capabilities and expanding its influence in the global defence market. The future looks promising for Indian defence exports, bolstered by successful showcases at prominent international defence shows.

India’s Defence Export Growth: A Testament to Innovation

India's defence exports have grown 31 times in the last decade, showcasing the nation's advancements in military technology. The record growth in FY 2023-24 indicates a strong global demand for Indian defence products. These achievements underscore India's strategic shift towards becoming a major exporter of advanced military systems.

The positive response at Eurosatory 2024 is a clear sign that India's defence innovations are gaining global recognition. As discussions with potential international buyers progress, India’s defence sector stands ready to meet the growing demand for its cutting-edge technologies. The success of indigenous systems like the Netra AEW&C and Pinaka MBRL is a testament to India's robust defence capabilities and strategic vision.
