Lockheed Martin Enhances Command and Control Capabilities at Valiant Shield 2024

Pentagon: Lockheed Martin has demonstrated significant advancements in its digital command and control (C2) capabilities during the Valiant Shield exercise in Hawaii this month. The enhancements to its C2 Planning Software and the rigorous training provided to operators underscore the company's commitment to supporting the Pentagon’s Joint Fires Network (JFN) initiative. This initiative aims to improve coordination between commanders and integrate various sensors and weapon systems into a cohesive operational framework.

To effectively participate in Valiant Shield, Lockheed Martin made several key improvements to its C2 Planning Software. These enhancements included streamlining operator workflows to make machine interactions more intuitive, enabling real-time monitoring, and facilitating seamless integration with other technologies. By optimizing these processes, Lockheed Martin aimed to enhance the agility and responsiveness of joint operations across all military domains. The company also provided extensive training for operators on high-fidelity mission simulators prior to the exercise, ensuring they were well-prepared to utilize the advanced C2 planning system in a realistic operational environment. 

Building Joint, Networked Capability 

Lockheed Martin has actively participated in seven exercises to refine its digital C2 capabilities further. One notable example is Northern Edge, an experiment conducted in the Indo-Pacific theater. Northern Edge demonstrated the synchronization of various technologies that could contribute to the Pentagon’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) campaign. JADC2 is a comprehensive effort to connect all aspects of military operations into a unified command and control system, enhancing the ability to respond to threats and coordinate actions across different domains.

Looking ahead, Lockheed Martin plans to continue bringing its advanced technologies to exercises and demonstrations in the Indo-Pacific region. The company aims to help build a joint, networked capability that can support the U.S. military's strategic goals.
